Ground Beef Cheesesteaks

Saturday, December 19, 2020

I may have liked these if I had thickened with flour and water, but for some reason the cornstarch thickening with ground beef really icked me out - or maybe I was just having a bad food day.  Those are not unheard of.  The hubs liked them though, but he likes everything so it's not really an endorsement.

Ground Beef Cheesesteaks

Yield: 4

Prep time: 5

Cook time:15-20

Total time:

Ingredients

1lb lean ground beef

1 tbsp butter

1 small onion, diced

1 bell pepper, diced

2 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt, pepper

1 tbsp corn starch

1 cup beef broth
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

4-6 buns

Instructions

Heat a large skillet, over medium heat, then add the ground beef.  When the beef is starting to get dry, add the onions and bell pepper, and the seasonings.  Continue to cook until the beef is getting browned bits on the edges.  If you need to remove any grease, use a pair of tongs and a paper towel to absorb any excess.

To a glass measuring cup, add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth and the cornstarch, mixing well.  Pour over the beef mixture and it will start to thicken.  Cook on a medium heat for another 10 minutes or so or until the mixture is the consistency you like.

Turn off the heat, add the cheese and stir.

Serve on buns with your favorite side.
